Assistant Manager, Systems Infrastructure (Job 224)

The OUAC is seeking an Assistant Manager for the Systems Infrastructure team to manage system infrastructure maintenance and enhancements. This system is used by the OUAC to support 250,000 applicants annually, 20 universities and multiple other stakeholders.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Oversee system infrastructure operations, including monitoring systems, managing problem resolution, conducting in-depth performance analysis and recommending system enhancements.
  • Support OUAC and departmental project work by being a project leader when needed, assisting in determining resource requirements and reviewing all aspects of the project to ensure system infrastructure issues are proactively identified and mitigated.
  • Oversee OUAC system security by conducting research on security issues, ensuring the internal security controls and audits are appropriate and operating as intended, participating in security projects as a subject matter expert (SME).
  • Provide direction, training and support to departmental staff.

Qualifications Sought:

  • A university degree in computer science or a body of training and experience deemed to be equivalent and sufficient to meet the requirements of the position.
  • A minimum of ten years of progressive work experience as a System Administrator or equivalent. Preference will be shown to individuals with experience in a team lead role in I/T projects.
  • Skills in project management and expert understanding of project life cycle with a proven ability to lead a team through projects.
  • Intermediate knowledge of the network and data communication protocols and standards used by the OUAC and the universities, including SSH, VPNs, SSL, IPSec, DNS, etc.
  • Proficiency and expertise in computer networking.

  • Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

Qualifications Considered an Asset:

  • Knowledge in any of these areas: Linux, VMware, Microsoft Windows Server, Active Directory, NetApp filers, IBM i operation system
