The OUAC collects application fees to cover OUAC expenses and to assist with funding university support services.

There are specific formulae by each OUAC division to calculate each university’s portion of the funding. The OUAC operates on a cost-recovery basis. Any funds not required for OUAC expenses or fund balance allocation are distributed to the universities. Any increases to OUAC expenses would affect the final distribution transfer amount to the universities. Increases to OUAC expenses do not affect divisional transfer payments.

  • Secondary School/Undergraduate (101)
  • Non-secondary/Undergraduate (105 for non-Ontario secondary school applicants)
  • Ontario Law School Application Service (OLSAS)
  • Ontario Medical School Application Service (OMSAS)
  • Ontario Rehabilitation Sciences Programs Application Service (ORPAS)
  • Teacher Education Application Service (TEAS)
  • Contract Processing Divisions (e.g., graduate studies, undergraduate part-time)

OUAC Expenses:

OUAC expenses include the following:

  • Support for applicants, guidance counsellors, universities and other trading partners, including application guides, guidance counsellor handbooks, marketing materials for application services and events, and more.
  • Centralized application-related services for 20 Ontario universities:
    • Processing applications to full-time undergraduate programs
    • Processing applications to professional programs (medicine, law, teacher education and rehabilitation sciences)
    • Processing contract applications relating to graduate studies, part-time undergraduate studies, internal transfers, re-admissions and more
    • Ongoing development and maintenance of secure application systems (software/hardware)
    • Managing the eTranscript service hub
    • Processing and distributing grades to Ontario’s universities for Ontario and out-of-province students
    • Managing online referees for professional programs
    • Collecting MCAT and LSAT scores
  • Transcript exchange services for both Ontario universities and college requests
  • Financial and administrative support for the Ontario Universities’ Fair, the Ontario Universities’ Regional Fairs and Ontario Universities’ Info (OUInfo)
  • Administrative support for the Ontario Universities’ Guidance Dialogues (OUGD)
  • With applicant approval, transfer information to Ontario Student Assistance Program (OSAP) to facilitate completing the applicant’s OSAP application

How the Universities Use the Fees

OUAC fees are also transferred to fund the growing needs of prospective students for academic, personal and social supports from the universities. The OUAC application fee revenue is an important contributing factor in enabling enhancements to the following services:

  • Ontario Universities’ Fair – All Ontario universities participate in the annual event held at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre. Attendance exceeds 115,000 visitors. Admission is free to all.
  • Ontario Universities’ Regional Fairs – Representatives from all Ontario universities travel together visiting high schools across the province during the fall. This event allows students in all areas the opportunity to hear directly from the university representatives.
  • Campus open houses, events and tours.
  • School visits to campuses.
  • University visits to high schools and community organizations according to the Postsecondary Information Event Calendar.
  • Application assessment and evaluation including transcripts, document processing‎ and supplementary application evaluation (where applicable).
  • Campus viewbooks and program-specific materials for students.
  • Digital communications, social media and advertising.
  • Customer Relationship Management systems and maintenance.
  • Application communications and enrollment processing.
  • Student portals and other online systems.
  • Resources for prospective students (university websites for future students and parents).
  • Bilingual OUInfo database made accessible for students, parents and guidance counsellors to easily find information about university undergraduate programs, admission requirements, scholarships and additional resources.
