Application Deadlines and Supplementary Information
- June 1, 2023 – Application deadline for the fall term (with some exceptions).
- October 15, 2022 – Last day for receipt of applications for admission to an undergraduate degree program for the winter term from applicants whose documents originate from outside Canada or the United States.
- November 15, 2022 – Last day for receipt of applications for admission to an undergraduate degree program for the winter term.

Official transcripts for all studies must be submitted to Admissions Services.
For most degree programs, academic grades are the sole basis for admission (with some exceptions). Supplementary applications are not required, except for Social Work.

Semester Entry Points
Full‑time and part‑time entry are available in September and January.
Note: Not all programs are available in January.
Part‑time entry is available in May and July; however, not all programs are available for the summer session.
Scholarships
At Carleton University, we reward academic excellence and recognize financial need with generous scholarship and bursary programs.
If you are entering Carleton with a high school average of 80% or higher, we will automatically consider you for one of our entrance scholarships. An application will be required only if you wish to be considered for 1 of our 25 prestige entrance scholarships.
All entrance and prestige scholarships are renewable with an A‑ average and you may renew them over the first 4 years of undergraduate study.
A Carleton University Entrance Bursary, granted on the basis of financial need, will provide you with additional funds to help you meet the education costs of your first‑year studies.

Residence Accommodation
3,604 residence spaces are available, 77% of which are reserved for first-year students. Most of these rooms are double, traditional-style and located on all-gender floors.
There are spaces located on single-gender floors (as demand dictates), as well as gender-inclusive living options. Limited space is available in suite-style residence, double and single rooms.
The residence fee includes:
- a residence space
- Wi-Fi service
- an all-access meal plan that includes unlimited entry into the Residence Dining Hall and dining dollars for meal purchases at other university food outlets.
If we admit you to first-year studies directly from high school or CEGEP by May 13, 2023, you will receive an offer of residence that you must return by 4:30 pm on June 8, 2023.
We allocate the remaining rooms by lottery on June 13, 2023, to those who indicated an interest in their OUAC application and applied for residence.
A $700 deposit is required when you accept your room offer.
Disability Services
We provide individualized academic accommodations and a wide range of support services for students with disabilities through the Paul Menton Centre for Students with Disabilities (PMC).
We invite prospective students with disabilities and their parents to visit the PMC website for more information on:
- the disability services registration process,
- disability services documentation requirements,
- academic accommodations and support services,
- fall orientation for new students,
- attendant services,
- awards for students with disabilities and
- transition tips for students.
Once you have accepted an offer of admission to Carleton, email PMC to set up an intake appointment with a PMC coordinator. We encourage you to book a summer intake appointment to avoid the busy time of September.

Admission Processing Charge
All applicants, except current CEGEP applicants, are required to pay a $72.50 non‑refundable administrative fee directly to the OUAC.
Mature Applicants
You are a mature applicant if you satisfy all the following requirements:
- You are a Canadian citizen or permanent resident (landed immigrant) of Canada,
- You do not meet the normal admission requirements as published in the Carleton Undergraduate Calendar,
- You have been away from full-time studies for a minimum of 2 calendar years and
- You have not attended university or college as a full‑time student.

University Transfers
As a general rule, if you successfully completed courses from a recognized university or college, or from selected high school curricula such as International Baccalaureate or Advanced Placement, we will consider you for transfer credit at Carleton. We will assess all previous studies once the Admissions Office receives the necessary official transcripts and course descriptions.
Note: Course descriptions from universities and colleges outside Canada and the US must be certified by the institution. In all cases, the credit you receive depends on:
- the grades you achieved,
- the type of institution you attended,
- the degree program(s) at Carleton you are applying for and
- the relevance of the course to your proposed degree.
Enriched Support Program (ESP)
ESP provides an alternative pathway to degree admission for students whose high school or college grades do not reflect their potential. Students enroll in first-year courses and benefit from a network of supports designed to help them qualify for a degree and succeed at university.

Indigenous Enriched Support Program (IESP)
IESP is an alternative pathway program for Indigenous students seeking to enter postsecondary studies in a culturally responsive and supportive environment, or for those students whose transcripts may not accurately reflect their potential. Students enroll in first-year courses and workshops that will prepare them for entrance into a degree program and help them build academic and well-being skills.
IESP students benefit from a comprehensive network of Indigenous-led supports tailored to their needs at each stage of their journey, all while creating strong connections with the Indigenous community at Carleton.

English-language Requirements
You can prove your English-language proficiency in a number of ways:
- Demonstrate that you have studied for the last 3 years (full-time in an academic program) in a high school, college or university in a country where the primary language is English, and in a school where the language of instruction is exclusively English (e.g., in a British, American or Australian curriculum or the International Baccalaureate).
- If you cannot demonstrate 3 full-time years in an English-language school as outlined, you must submit one of the following English-language test scores:
- Minimum Canadian Academic English Language (CAEL) Score: 70 (with a minimum 60 in each band)
- Minimum Duolingo English Test Score: 115 (with no subtest score below 90)
- Minimum International English Language Test Service (IELTS) Academic Score: 6.5 (with a minimum 6.0 in each band)
- Minimum Pearson Test of English (PTE) Academic Score: 60 (with a minimum 60 in each communicative skill)
- Minimum Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) iBT Score: 86 (with a minimum of 22 in Writing and Speaking, and 20 in Reading and Listening)
If your language test scores fall below these listed cut-offs, you may still be eligible for admission with an English as a Second Language Requirement (ESLR).
Admission with an ESLR allows you to begin earning academic credits toward a degree program while completing English requirements. You would take up to 3 English as a second language (ESL) courses that are geared toward developing academic English-language skills. With successful completion of the highest level of ESL, you fulfill the ESLR and are eligible to begin full-time degree studies.

Affiliated University Colleges
Dominican University College (DUC) is a bilingual university specializing in fully accredited undergraduate and graduate programs in Philosophy and Theology.
DUC is located in the heart of Ottawa, a few steps from Parliament Hill and the Supreme Court of Canada. It is heir to the Catholic Dominion tradition of teaching Philosophy and Theology that dates back to the founding of the first European universities in the 13th century. Building on this rich tradition, with its outstanding faculty, small classes and generous scholarship programs, DUC attracts students from across Canada and around the world.

DUC also offers bilingual 1‑year transition programs to assist high school students in the transition to successful university studies.
