Applicant Requirements

Read: Essential Skills and Attributes Required for Studying Rehabilitation Sciences

You must be immunized against various diseases before you enter a clinical setting. Failure to fulfill these requirements may delay or prevent you from graduating from your program.

Some programs, such as Standard First Aid and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), require training prior to admission. For some clinical sites, you must complete site-specific training before clinical placements begin. Training costs are at your own expense.

Police Record Check

As a condition of admission, some schools require you to undergo a Police Record Check (PRC) or Vulnerable Sector Screening (VSS) (the most comprehensive type of police record check available) prior to or upon acceptance into a program. In addition, many placement sites require you to have a PRC or VSS prior to going on placement or fieldwork. Failure to comply with these requirements could result in the following:

  • You may not be permitted to register in the program until this check is complete.
  • You may not be able to attend your clinical placement.
  • You may be asked to leave your placement site and not return until you can show your PRC or VSS.
  • A placement site may not accept you for a placement based on the results of your check.
  • Progression through the program may be delayed or suspended.
  • Multiple checks may be required throughout the program, and all costs associated with obtaining the checks will be at your expense.

Travel Requirements

Travel may be required for program-related activities and courses, including, but not limited to, the following:

  • mandatory teaching sessions
  • clinical placements within a program’s catchment area
  • out‑of‑catchment clinical placements

Hours of Study

Evening and/or weekend hours may be required during the course of the academic program, including clinical practica.

Offers of Admission

First‑round offers of admission for SLP and AUD programs are sent on April 3. First‑round offers of admission for OT/PT programs are sent on May 18.

You may hold only 1 acceptance of an offer of admission to an Ontario rehabilitation sciences program at any time. However, if you provisionally accept an offer, you may indicate that you wish for your applications to other rehabilitation sciences programs in the same discipline to remain active. If you do not indicate that you wish to be considered for a specific choice in the same discipline, it will be marked as “Decline: No Further Consideration”.

Responses to offers of admission must be submitted by logging in to your ORPAS application.

Note: You must click “Review and Submit” after saving your response, and follow the “Submit” process. You will receive a confirmation number if this is done successfully.

After submitting responses to offers of admission, you will be locked out of your application for 1 business day.
