Last updated: August 22, 2019

Note: This application guide contains information for Fall 2020 Admission.

Quick Links

Important: OLSAS must receive your transcripts by the following dates:

  • November 1, 2019, for first-year English programs
  • March 2, 2020, for first-year French programs
  • May 1, 2020, for upper-year programs

Transcript Requirements

Official transcripts are required for each university, college, CEGEP, junior college, graduate school or other postsecondary institution you have registered at. You must still submit a separate transcript even if your home school transcript shows an exchange or transfer course, and regardless of whether or not the course of study is relevant to your application.

This includes transcripts for the following:

  • Work taken on Letter of Permission
  • Transfer credit
  • Exchange program credit

OLSAS does not require International Baccalaureate (IB) or Advanced Placement (AP) transcripts.

To be official, transcripts must meet these criteria:

  • be sent directly from the registrar’s office to OLSAS, and
  • be either:
    1. printed on the institution’s official transcript paper or be imprinted with the school’s seal and/or bear the appropriate signatures or
    2. sent electronically, where that procedure has been established.

OLSAS cannot accept undergraduate transcripts provided by you or graduate departments. Photocopies and/or faxes of official transcripts, or transcripts uploaded via Secure Applicant Messaging (SAM), are not acceptable.

Only 1 copy of each transcript is required.

It is not possible to notify you of any outstanding transcripts at the time of the deadline.

Transfer, Letter of Permission and/or exchange program credits recorded on the transcript of another university cannot be accepted in place of the transcript from the university where the course was taken.

If you attended or are attending a university/college that does not issue transcripts, you must arrange with the registrar’s office to provide OLSAS with an official statement of attendance and degree granted.

Transcripts from Ontario Universities and Colleges

Online Transcript Request

If you attended or are currently enrolled at an Ontario university or college, you must request your transcript through your online application, unless otherwise noted in the Exceptions for Online Transcript Requests.

By completing an online transcript request and forwarding the appropriate fees, you authorize the OUAC to arrange for your official transcripts to be sent to OLSAS; you do not need to contact the registrar’s office directly.

You can access this section in your application by selecting “Transcripts”.

OLSAS must receive your online transcript request by the appropriate deadlines to satisfy the transcript deadline requirement.

Transcripts requested when you apply will not include the current year’s results.

Submitted transcript requests cannot be cancelled or changed.

The OUAC is not responsible for the refusal of any university to provide transcripts (e.g., delinquent accounts, incorrect identification). If you do not resolve the issues in a timely manner, the law schools will not consider your transcripts upon their release.

Transcript Request Fees

Transcript request fees are collected by the OUAC on behalf of the institutions.

For information about each institution’s transcript request fee, see Transcript Request Fees.

The transcript request fees are non-refundable.

Note: By completing an online transcript request and submitting it with your application and appropriate fees (OLSAS application service fee, university fees and transcript request fees), you authorize the OUAC to arrange for your official transcripts to be sent to OLSAS. Submitted requests cannot be cancelled or changed and all fees are non-refundable.

Transcripts from Canadian Institutions Outside of Ontario

If you attended or are currently enrolled at a Canadian university or college outside Ontario, you must contact the registrar’s office to arrange to have your transcript sent to OLSAS.

OLSAS has established procedures with some of these institutions to release their transcripts by electronic means. The collection of electronic transcripts is not an automated process. As long as the document is available to OLSAS by the transcript deadline, it will meet the deadline requirement. Transcripts sent by institutions via email and/or fax are not acceptable as these are not secure methods of document transfer.

If your university does not issue electronic transcripts, you must arrange with their registrar’s office to have an official paper copy sent to OLSAS.

Transcripts from US Institutions

If you attended or are currently enrolled at a US university or college, you must contact the registrar’s office to arrange to have your transcript sent to OLSAS.

OLSAS will convert grades of courses taken at accredited universities in the US. These applicants do not require a World Education Services (WES) evaluation.

Transcripts from International Institutions (Excluding the US)

  • OLSAS requires a WES evaluation for all international transcripts.
  • WES evaluations must be sent directly to OLSAS by WES and must be received by the application deadline.
  • You are responsible for arranging the transfer of all other transcripts and documents to OLSAS.

Assessment of International Academic Credentials

Credentialing assessment means converting international academic credentials into their Canadian educational equivalents. If a WES evaluation includes a copy of your official transcript, you are not required to request a transcript from your registrar.

  • If your undergraduate studies were taken outside Canada and the US, you must have your transcript assessed by WES.
  • If your graduate studies were taken outside Canada and the US, you are not required to have your transcript evaluated by WES, although such evaluation may be requested.
  • If you are a National Committee of Accreditation candidate, you are not required to have your transcripts provided to OLSAS by WES.
  • A WES evaluation is not required for courses taken as part of an exchange program, as long as transfer credits for these courses appear on the home university transcript.

Request that a course-by-course evaluation be reported for your international grades. The evaluation will not be valid without an overall grade point average (GPA). However, the admission committees of the law schools reserve the right to apply their own evaluation.

WES evaluations must be sent directly to OLSAS by WES and must be received by the application deadline.

Reminder: OLSAS will convert grades of courses taken at accredited universities in the US. These applicants do not require a WES evaluation.

To contact WES, call 416-972-0070.
