The Application Process
Step 1: Research your university options and the application process
- Check out university publications, university websites, etc.
- Review the:
- Become familiar with and observe the application procedures for each law school and program you apply to.
- If you have a criminal record or questions about your eventual accreditation by the various legal professional regulatory bodies in Canada, we strongly encourage you to contact the appropriate governing body in your province prior to applying for admission to an Ontario law school.
The Droit civil program is offered in French at the University of Ottawa only. Use the French Undergraduate application to apply.
Step 2: Prepare your application and submit the required documentation
Submit your application and all transcripts and required documents before the deadlines, as specified by the law schools you apply to.
Required documentation includes:
- Transcripts
- References
- Ensure you give your referees sufficient time to complete their reference and submit it to OLSAS by the deadline.
- Personal Statement and Supplemental Form
- You are required to submit a personal statement for all law schools and a supplemental form for some schools. You must complete these forms in your application.
OLSAS will forward required documentation we receive after the deadline to the applicable law schools; however, we cannot guarantee that they will consider these documents. The application process may be delayed until all required documentation and transcripts are received, as specified by the law schools you apply to.
Normally, unsolicited application materials and information will not be considered for admission purposes.
Step 3: Upload supplementary documentation
Any time after you start your application, you can use Secure Applicant Messaging (SAM) to upload supplementary documentation, as required by the universities you apply to.
Supplementary documentation includes:
- Proof of Indigenous status
- Proof of permanent resident (landed immigrant) status (not required if you are a Canadian citizen)
- Resumé (pick “CV” from list)
- Supporting documentation for the Access category
- Supporting health or medical documentation
- University of Windsor Dual JD Supplementary Form
- Miscellaneous
Check Document Tracking in your application frequently to ensure that all your required documents are received by their respective deadlines.
If you provide tax return or credit card information to substantiate financial hardship, you must remove your Social Insurance Number and credit card number before sending copies to OLSAS.
Step 4: Submit your application by the deadline
- Prepare and submit your application by the appropriate deadline.
- You can apply to additional programs after you submit your initial application by following the amendment process, as long as the deadlines have not passed.
- You will receive an OUAC/OLSAS Reference Number (2025-88xxxx) and an acknowledgement email from OLSAS when you submit and pay for your application.
- If you do not receive an acknowledgement email, contact us immediately via SAM.
Your Responsibilities
Your OLSAS Application
- Each Ontario law school has its own admission requirements and reserves the right to determine whether degrees granted by postsecondary institutions are suitable for the purpose of admission. Be aware of these variations and make sure you qualify for consideration before you submit your application to OLSAS.
- The application process is lengthy. The amount of time it requires depends on the number of law schools you apply to. Allow 5 to 25 hours to prepare your application.
- Submit only 1 OLSAS application for 2025.
- Submit only 1 set of application materials and academic documents, regardless of the number of schools you apply to.
- We will process and forward applications to all requested law schools regardless of your qualifications or the completeness of your application.
- If you fail to comply with admission requirements and deadlines, your application may be not considered by the law schools.
- Contact the law school directly for additional information about their academic program and admission requirements.
Your OUAC Account
- If you already created an OUAC account, you do not need to create a new one. Do not take over an account created by someone else.
- Protect the personal information in your OUAC Account and your application. Do not provide it to anyone else or to other organizations in any form (e.g., paper, PDF).
Fees and Documentation
- Application fees are non‑refundable.
- We will not accept faxed or emailed documentation.
- We do not accept “collect” courier deliveries (COD) of any documents.
