General Application Process

Submit and Review Your School Submissions

  • Submit a supplementary personal submission, such as your Personal Statement, for each law school you selected. Review each law school’s requirements.
  • Review applicant categories and select the right applicant category or categories for each law school.

Outline Your Academic Background

  • List all the postsecondary institutions you have attended, are attending or have withdrawn from.
  • List all schools where you obtained or will be obtaining your degree, your exchange school, any non-degree courses taken, etc.

Enter Your Law School Admission Test (LSAT) Details

  • If you have written or plan to write the LSAT, enter your LSAC account number and your past and/or future test dates, as applicable; otherwise, OLSAS will not be able to retrieve your scores starting in November.
  • We receive the results directly from LSAC.
    • Enter your LSAC account number and test dates in your application.
    • Keep this section up to date over the course of the application cycle if your LSAT plans change. If you need to update this section after you submit your application, make the appropriate change and submit it as an amendment.
  • Amendments:
    • You can amend your future test dates after you submit your application, if necessary.
    • If you receive your LSAC account number after you submit your application, log in to your application, add it to the LSAT section and submit it as an amendment.

Upload Supplementary Documents

  • In the SAM section, use “Upload Document” to upload supporting documents, as requested by the universities you apply to.
  • You may do this before and after you submit your application.

Submit Your Transcripts

  • Include all official postsecondary transcripts.
  • Add your transcript requests for any Ontario universities and colleges since those transcripts must be requested through the application.
    • You can add additional Ontario transcript requests after you submit your application and/or when new grades are available.
    • For non-Ontario and international transcripts, provide all transcripts to OLSAS by the applicable transcript deadlines.

Select Your Referees

  • Enter a maximum of 3 references.
  • References must cover all referee requirements for all schools you apply to. Review the requirements for each law school, as the number and/or type of references vary.
  • At any time, check the status of your references under the “Actions/Status” column.

List Your Activities and Verifiers

  • Provide biographical information about yourself and outline your activities since high school (maximum 32 entries) in the Sketch and Verifier Requirements section of the application.
  • This information is organized into 6 different categories.

After You Apply

Monitor Your Document Tracking

  • You can monitor your Document Tracking as soon as you create your application.
  • Check Document Tracking in the Application Links menu of the OLSAS application for transcripts, references and LSAT scores received.
  • LSAT scores will not be displayed until after the application deadline.

Access Your Grade Point Average (GPA) Calculations

  • Beginning in mid-December, applicants will have access to their OLSAS GPA calculations.
  • Applicants are responsible for reporting any required changes to their academic record to OLSAS as soon as possible.
  • Any questions or concerns regarding your GPA must be submitted via SAM.

Make Changes to Your Application

  • You may change some parts of your application, but not all.
  • Log back in, navigate to the section you want to edit, make the desired changes and submit them as an amendment.
  • You cannot make changes to the following information:
    • Academic Record (except to add an institution)
    • Transcript Requests (except to add a new request)
    • School Submissions (except to add but not change an application category, where the individual law schools allow it, or to add information about your participation in pre-law initiatives offered by the University of Toronto).
    • Autobiographical Sketch and Verifiers
    • Status in Canada
